"Tears that Feel"

"Tears that Feel

This poem is about the time I shared two poems with my teenage daughter I had written about her. I always knew she was a sensitive girl, but her reaction was somewhat unexpected, especially given the casual setting in which I showed them to her—we were sitting in a food court inside a mall.

She definitely got her emotional side from me. She can become teary reading a book, watching a movie, or even during a conversation—just like I do. In the past, she’s gotten upset when her emotions surfaced at inconvenient times, but I’ve always told her not to be embarrassed or feel bad about being sensitive. I tell her it’s a superpower and a gift.
